Early November 1999 saw the release of AMD's last 0.25 μm Athlon processor, the Athlon 700. Like previous Athlon processors up to
650 MHz, the Athlon 700 is based on the 22 million transistor K7 core.
Like all other 0.25 μm Athlon's, the Athlon 700 features 512 Kb level 2 cache running at 1/2 clock speed (350 MHz) mounted within
the processor module itself.
Overall, the Athlon 700 features impressive performance in all applications due to it's advanced architechture and it's impressive
floating point unit. Unfortunately, the Athlon 700 lost it's speed crown with the release of Intel's "Coppermine" Pentium III
733 MHz processor, in the speed stakes. Whether or not the "Coppermine" is more powerful than the Athlon is a matter which is open to
debate. Overall, the Athlon 700 is a VERY powerful processor.
