TMC Ti5tv in use
As with the TMC Ai5tv, the Ti5tv has proved to be a very good board over many months of running. It has been VERY reliable with few
crashes caused by hardware incompatibility or other problems. It proved very easy to set up with brightly coloured DIP switches used to
set up the CPU. This board has shown up the AMD K5 to be a rather good processor for everyday functions such as word processing and
speadsheet work, and has performed faultlessly.
The Ti5tv though has proved to be rather strangely laid out, and this is where most of our gripes with the board are found. Firstly as
with other Socket 7 ATX boards, the CPU is located towards the right of the board and away from the ATX power supply. This we feel is
not very good as the cooling benefits of the CPU being placed in the airflow of the Power Supply Unit are considerable. Also the CPU
setup DIP switches are somewhat strangely placed next to the PCI slots, and not near the CPU itself.
We do like the fact that the IDE and Floppy lead connectors are placed up next to the DIMM sockets which means that there is no fouling
of the PCI and ISA slots. This means that full length cards can be fitted in ALL of the expansion slots, something which ATX has a clear
advantage over AT boards.
TMC Ti5vg+, the Verdict
In the opinion of the Processor Emporium the TMC Ti5tv is a very good motherboard indeed. It has reliability which can be placed in the
same league as the Ai5tv which is one of its strongest features. What we do find disappointing is that it does not take full advantage of
the benefits of the ATX layout. We feel that there could be one more expansion slot and the CPU could be placed directly under the ATX
power supply. This board is no longer available new, but on the used market it is a very good buy indeed.
