SGS Thomson are not a major player in the "x86" market by any account. In 1998 SGS Thompson were still manufacturing 486 DX-4 design
processors, for sale outside the embedded (eg: washing machines, microwaves, hard disk controllers) processor market. They also manufactured
the former Cyrix 6x86+ design after Cyrix strated production on the 6x86MX/MII design. This processor is the same as the original Cyrix
design and so has all the same attributes, and problems. SGS Thompson only sold it as the P166+ design. The Processor Emporium thus can only
reccomend this chip if it was exceptionally cheap.
