Evergreen technologies have been a major player in the Overdrive processor buisiness for a number of years. They provide a range of solutions to the PC user as to possible upgrade solutions. One of these upgrade solutions is the MxPro Overdrive chip. This chip like the Intel Pentium MMX Overdrive offers the user of lower powered Pentium systems the opportunity to upgrade to P200 MMX power. It is currently priced around £130 in the UK, and so offers reasonable value to the lower powered upgrader. The MxPro unlike the Intel and Kingston overdrive processors is not based upon the Intel Pentium MMX processor. Instead it is based upon the budget IDT WinChip C6 processor. This offers less performance than its Intel powered counterparts, and should only be considered by those who cannot fit a genuine IDT WinChip C6 into an existing motherboard.
That said, the MxPro would make a significant performance increase to users of Socket 5 motherboards who can only run up to Intel Pentium
133 processors. The Intel Pentium MMX Overdrive chip will only run in Socket 7 motherboards, making the Evergreen MxPro a more attractive
option to the user of older Pentium PC's.
