TurboChip 233

Kingston Technologies are a company who have one of the best names in PC Hardware due to their line of high quality memory products. As with many PC hardware companies, Kingston Technologies make other products than their core product line. One of these products is the TurboChip 233.

The TurboChip 233 was until recently the fastest upgrade processor available in the UK. Based around the Intel Pentium MMX 233, the TurboChip 233 offered good performance in all areas. Floating point performance is very good as this has always been a strong point of recent Intel processors, thus making the TurboChip 233 an impressive all rounder. The TurboChip 233 though is not a cheap upgrade option costing somewhere in the region of £150+, making it more expensive than replacing both the motherboard and processor to run a chip such as the AMD K6-2 300. That said, many do not want to carry out an upgrade as complex as a motherboard swap, and the TurboChip 233 would make a better option.

The Processor Emporium (UK) would only recommend the TurboChip 233 if it was sigificantly cheaper than the new Evergreen Spectra 333 AMD overdrive. That said, some people want to stick with the Intel brand for their CPU's, and this overdrive is the best option for anyone who wants to boost their old Pentium (only consider machines from 75 to 133 MHz) to a more modern standard. Also remember that Kingston Technologies are a very good company, and this product is likely to be of a high quality.
