Evergreen Technologies have not yet forgotten the user of older 486 based PC's in its 486 to 586 Upgrade. This allows users of 486 based PC's from DX-33 to DX-4 100 to upgrade to the AMD AM586 processor. This chip gives the 496 user similar performance to an Intel Pentium 75 without having to upgrade to a full Pentium based system. This makes this upgrade a very good option for users of lower powered 486 based PC's, enabling them to run Windows 95 with a small degree of comfort, and will even run Windows 98, albeit very slowly.
If possible I would recommend upgrading to a modern machine, but for many this is just not a viable option, and I feel that Evergren
should be applauded for making this chip. At £99 it is a very good boost for an ageing 486 based PC and will allow users to continue
running demanding applications such as Office 97 on their older machines.
